Therefore I am going to give Dustwind on Xbox One the Thumb Culture Silver Award.ĭisclaimer: A code was received in order to write this review.
But I just can’t shift the fact that it is so like Fallout that it seems hard to see past that. If there were some more original ideas that went into it then maybe it would have been better. There may be some faults for players but I found the game really enjoyable and great to pass the day with. But we all know one more mission just isn’t one more mission. My final thought is that even while writing up this Dustwind Xbox One review I had the urge to go back and just do one more mission. Hate to think how many hours you can invest in. I mean who doesn’t love blowing people’s heads off right? I have a feeling that there are many more hours to go for me to complete it and if 100% completion is your thing. The main reason why I love these types of games is that they have plenty to offer. That’s not including the multiplayer that you can play. There is plenty of content for players to keep going back to. LongevityĪfter spending over 20 hours on Dustwind I still barely touched the surface of what this game has to offer. The voiceovers were in sync and actually fun to listen to. The sounds of people dying and getting their limbs and heads blown off is something that will never get old.
Everything sounds as it should do in a real-time strategy game. The audio in Dustwind is actually really good with some great voiceover work and narrative. I can’t seem to recall any issues with the performance as everything ran really smoothly. I know I keep saying it but it just looks like Fallout but with better graphics. Very detailed and look great X/S enhanced. With five different modes to try out I’m sure there is something for everyone. It’s quite rare that to find these kinds of games to come with multiplayer.
One thing I will give to Dustwind is the ability to play multiplayer. You move from location to location, leveling up, finding better gear, and finding allies to help you on your quest. Apart from that, the rest is pretty self-explanatory. There shouldn’t be any need to use the right stick in these types of games. For instance, there is the use of the right analog stick to aim at your enemies. I just think that the controls are way too complicated when they shouldn’t be. If you are not familiar with any kind of tactical strategy game then you will definitely not like this. You kill and loot like all the rest but for me, it was the controls that were just a complete pain. But if you’ve played Fallout then you’ve played Dustwind. To be honest I never really struggle with these types of games but I found Dustwind really hard to get into. Fallout was and still is an absolutely brilliant game and paved the way for so many games in the same genre. Now I know games like to take inspiration from some of the classics but it is hard to tell these two apart. There are so many similarities that you would think it would be a good thing. It follows all the other tactical strategy games that have come before it. You were beaten to the brink of death but rise up with revenge on the brain. In Dustwind you take on the role of a nameless heroine. You can also check out what the rest of the Thumb Culture team are up to on our social media. Is there really any more room for these types of games anymore. I always got excited to play it but lately there just seems to be so many of them knocking about.
